A Little Clearing in the Woods

There should always be a place for the things that don't quite belong anywhere else.

The half-formed thoughts. The photographs taken because the light was pretty. The books left open facedown beside a cup of tea. The strange pieces of folklore that send me wandering down research paths I never meant to take. The stories growing quietly in the background before they're ready to be called stories at all.

That's what I want this little corner to be.

I called it Field Notes because “blog” felt far too tidy for what I have in mind.

Here, I'll leave pieces of the worlds I'm building and the things that inspire them. There will be book news, certainly. Peeks behind the curtain. Research rabbit holes. Places I've fallen in love with. Old stories and strange traditions. Coastal mornings, wooded roads, bits of history, and probably more than a few things I found while looking for something entirely different.

Mostly, though, I want this to be somewhere slower.

The internet asks us to say everything quickly. To make it short enough to scroll past, bright enough to stop a thumb, polished enough to look effortless.

I miss words that are allowed to linger.

So these are my field notes.

Little observations gathered along the way. Things pressed between the pages while the stories take root.

Stay awhile.
